About Me

I’m a 4th-year Computer Science major and Music Minor. I’m looking forward to being thrown into a world with an oversaturated job market and a rising fascist government.

Abstract

Automatic Music Transcription (AMT) has been a challenge since its inception in the 1970s. This project aims to create a lightweight process for transcribing monophonic, distortion guitar audio. A Python program takes .wav audio input, estimates note pitch and rhythm quality, and outputs a symbolic representation (MIDI) that can be visually and auditorily evaluated. Current results have demonstrated great potential in pitch estimation, particularly in synthetic distorted guitar samples created with MIDI, which are rhythmically simple. Promising monophonic transcription results open the door to extending the project toward more rhythmically complex and potentially polyphonic inputs.
